Last week I left my timex sports watch by the shower for a day and I was so disappointed to see it did this:
I'd heard that putting a cell phone in rice would absorb the water so I figured this might work for my watch.
So I dunked my watch in arborio (risotto) rice – I figured this kind is meant to absorb liquid so it would be my best bet. I left my watch in the rice bowl for three days and…
Hurray! Good as new! I wish I had known this worked for watches, I've gotten rid of a few because of the fogging.
Three Bod Squad summers ago a young woman named Genevieve came strolling down the lane way toward the park. I'd never met Gen so I wasn't exactly sure what to expect. At first glance I saw that she was dressed in Ed Hardy converse sneakers and was wearing a large oversized t-shirt that I learned later belonged to her dad. Gen began by telling me she wouldn't run and that she hadn't really exercised at all since grade 11 gym class. Off to a good start! No problem I thought, I'll fix that.
I'd heard that Gen somewhat begrudgingly agreed to join Bod Squad, she'd been convinced by her best friend Lindsay (my sister) that jumping around in the park at 6:30 am might be a good idea.
Right from the very first workout Gen came prepared with a get-er-done attitude. She was focused, dediacated – didn't miss a day, and totally gave it her all – especially on hill day field trips! I knew she started off secretly hating every minute of the workout but the key was she kept at it.
One of the reasons why I love Bod Squad is because they are really challenging workouts but it's really about doing YOUR best and not worrying about how anyone else is doing. We are all there for the same reasons: to get fit and have fun! Gen got that from the begining and now she's a total superstar at the workouts – practice makes perfect!
Gradually over the summers I saw a shift in Gen, she totally got her aaa-ha! moment last summer. She started losing inches like they were melting off her.
Her total weight lost at Bod Squad was over 25lbs and most importantly she lost over 62 inches!
I always say it's so not about the weight but how you feel you're living your best life and doing what you love. Talking to Gen now is like talking to a completely different person then I met three years ago. She was always and is still awesome but her sparkle seems to shine so much brighter now!
Gen's been a Bod Squadette for two years and I can't wait to have Gen come out to Bod Squad again this summer! She's such an inspiration to me. Thanks Gen!
Here's her testimonial from last summer!
There's still room to sign-up for the Squad but spaces are limited! Click here to sign-up for classes starting on Monday!
Brittany, fellow bloggette from Fine Tune Pilates met up with me in Christie Pitt's park for some core work! We love our jobs!! Brittany is to pilates what I am to intense interval workouts! I feel like I've met my redheaded alter fitness ego. Brittany is from Halifax, which explains why she's such a nice person! She's so goregous on the inside and out.
In this video Brittany and I went through five of our favourite pilates core exercises. Listening to Brittany explain how to properly do these exercises will really increase their effectiveness!

Brittany has been dubbed the "abs queen" by her pilates students and it's not hard to see why!
Earlier this week I was out late training clients and I had a weak moment – yes it happens to trainers too! I was walking by a pizza place and I decided to go in and have a slice for dinner. Five minutes into eating the pizza I felt like my stomach was doing somersaults.
Matt and I typically make homemade pizza Friday nights for dinners so I didn't think I would have trouble digesting the slice at all. I was wrong! Initially I was upset that I'd become such a food wimp but I think my body is used to eating good clean food and fast food pizza just turned my stomach inside out. I learned my lesson. No more bad pizza on the run – unless it's homemade pizza night!
Here's a list of places I go in Toronto when I'm out and want something that's healthy quick!
I LOVE their salad bar! LOVE LOVE LOVE it! When I worked at SickKids Foundation I ate at Longos every single day. I still dream about their wheatberry salad. The 7-grain salad is also mouth watering. Hands down this is the best salad bar in a grocery store ever.
Fresh has takeout salads and wraps right at the front. You can also order off their main menu and do takeout that way. I love the beach bowl! I used to be a buddha bowl fan and yes, it is still delicious but now beach is where it's at.
They make really great custom salads. Their ingredient menu is extensive and it all tastes really fresh.
Bottom Line: With lots of healthy to-go options there really is no excuse to eat terrible takeout pizza! After writing this post I can't wait to get back to some old favourites!
For those of you new to this blog please see my initial post on laser hair removal.
I bought a teambuy for laser hair removal last July and now after ten sessions I've given it my best shot and here's my honest review:
I have fair skin and blonde hair – which makes me a less than ideal candidate. Apparently the ideal laser candidate has olive skin with dark hair. I was told to expect to see a difference after two sessions, I saw nothing. After five sessions I thought I noticed a slight change, but I was wrong. After ten sessions I have no less hair than I had initially. I don't think it worked at all.
I am not sure if it was the fact that I did a Teambuy – the place I went to seemed really rushed and I didn't feel like they took a lot of time. I've never had laser hair removal before but I felt like it should take more than 5 minutes to do a bikini line and underarm. I guess you really do get what you pay for with some of these group buy things.
The only good part about this whole experience is that I can now firmly endorse Elma as an excellent numbing cream. I put Emla on before each treatment and it worked wonders for me! Not sure if I'll ever need it again but at least I know it works!
Bottom Line: If you have blonde hair and fair skin like me I would say laser hair removal is a waste of time, I'm going to stick with waxing and shaving from now on!
